Hillcrest Sports Club heralds in new era

You are spoilt for choice as there are four sporting clubs including tennis, bowls, athletics and football.

HILLCREST Sports Club recently held its 44th AGM, at which a few new appointments were made to its committee.

The group encourages Highway members to join its many sporting bodies.

Keith Sanderson is the president, Greg Worst was appointed as chairman, the vice-chairman is John Oliver, Richard Smart is the treasurer, Philip Wyatt is the secretary and Phil Edwards was re-affirmed as the club manager.

President and trustee, Keith Sanderson, explained that sport on the William Gillitt Sports Ground in the heart of Hillcrest has been available to the Hillcrest community for sporting purposes since 1929.

He said this was thanks to the foresight and generosity of the Gillitt family, who vested the property into a Trust.

He added that the club was recently restructured to ensure efficient management but also to place an empahsis on its four sporting clubs, tennis, bowls, athletics and football.

The club’s membership spreads across all age groups and caters for both social and competitive sport.
