Pinetown’s Andrew pulls no punches

Local fighter, Andrew Caruth will be taking on fellow MMA fighter, Yusuf Moola.

PINETOWN’s Andrew Caruth is confident his weeks of tireless training will pay off in his face-off with Yusuf Moola at the MFC comp at the Greyville Convention Centre on 3 December.

He is a long-serving member at Lion’s Den in Lahee Park and for the past nine weeks has put a swing into his game plan that is sure to throw off his opponent.

“I am feeling confident this time around. I have prepared well enough and I think that has helped ease the nerves,” said a positive Andrew.

Even with his recent win in the under 70kg class in Ground Quest, Andrew still hits between seven and eight training sessions a week, including visits to the gym, cardio sessions, boxing, sparring and more boxing.

“The most important thing I have learnt is to listen to my body and never push too hard as recovery is just as important as training,” said the father of two.

This will be Andrew’s first pairing with Yusuf and the idea of taking on someone new in the featherweight class would be a welcome challenge.

“I am excited to test out my new skill set as I have changed up my game quite a bit,” said Andrew.

“I can’t go into too much detail but I have definitely added a few moves.”

Head coach and owner of Lion’s Den South Africa, David Verster, said was looking forward to seeing the changes Andrew has made during a live match.

“I am always nervous for my fighters as I work so closely with them and they become like family. I am really keen to see where he goes in the division.”
