Highway maiden bowls em over
The SA team returned with silver after losing to Australia in the finals.
IT is every young sportsman or woman’s dream to represent their country and St Benedict School sport coordinator, Kayleigh Tapp, was honoured to be part of the South African Womens’ Indoor Cricket Team which competed in a World Cup in Dubai recently.
The SA team met New Zealand in the semi finals and beat them 80(2) – 74(2) and made it through to the final against Australia.

The final score in that game was 121(4) – 52(0) to Australia but the SA ladies held their heads high and won silver.
Tapp said she got involved in indoor cricket in 2010 as a form of fitness for other codes of sport.
“I am extremely honoured and ecstatic, a feeling that cannot be described to be part of this team. I felt privileged to be on this journey with them. A lot of people say it is not just a team but a family and I can honestly say that we are a family with a bond that will never be broken.”
Tapp explained the journey leading to the World Cup was long but amazing.
“The team, the management and the support we have received has been spectacular.”

The fast pace and being kept on your toes constantly is what Tapp enjoys most about indoor cricket.
Tapp plays outdoor cricket for the KZN women’s team, club cricket for Chatsworth Sporting, but when not playing any form of cricket, she likes being around friends and family chilling at a braai.
She was one of three KZN ladies in the team, the other two were Jenna Hambrook (vice-captain) and Nadine Moodley, both from Durban.
Questions and answers with Tapp:
If money was no object, what would you do all day?
- Coaching youngsters for cricket and working with underprivileged children.
What does your perfect day look like?
- Beach, sun, surf, friends, family, cricket.
How would your team describe you?
- A bit of a joker, the confused one.
Who do you look up to and why (famous or not)?
- My parents, for everything they have been through to ensure that we always had what we needed in life, and for their continuous support.
What age did you play your first action cricket game?
- Think I was about seven or eight, a social game with my dad and his work mates.
Best cricket moment/memory?
- First time representing my country, standing side by side with team mates singing the national anthem, as well as the first eight overs of the 2013 IPT final at Benoni arena.
What has your biggest challenge ever been?
- Proving that I was good enough to play a ‘male dominated’ sport throughout and dealing with all the comments from the opposition.
If you were an animal, which one would you be?
- A dog – everybody loves dogs.
Something no one or not many know about you ?
- I’m obsessed with sunglasses (Oakley’s) watches and jewellery.
Motivation slogan?
- There is a difference between interest and commitment. When you are interested in something, you do it only when it is convenient. When you are committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.
