Fabulous reads – Killer thriller has all the bells and whistles

Book review - Hide and Seek by M.J. Arlidge.

Hide and Seek (Helen Grace #6), M.J. Arlidge, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9780 7181 83844

IF you have not yet read Little Boy Blue, then turn away from this review now.

You would be doing both the book and yourself an utter disservice.

It is an incredible, fast-paced read with an ending that will leave you with a dropped jaw.

BOOK REVIEW: No gluten was used when reviewing this book

The ending to the fifth book in the series was quite a shocker. DI Helen Grace is arrested and imprisoned for a triple homicide we all know she didn’t commit.

I must admit that my reasons for reading this book were to find out what loopholes Arlidge had created for his character to not only survive behind bars but also to re-enter the world as a free woman.

He does not disappoint.

Grace’s life is completely upturned. She shares a grimy cell with rodents and cockroaches but all is not as it seems behind the walls of Holloway Prison.

A prisoner is found dead and her body mutilated and Grace takes it upon herself to find the killer, lest she becomes the next victim.

On the outside, the last of Grace’s allies, DS Charlie Brooks puts her career on the line to prove her friend’s innocence.

She fears all hope is lost until one small piece of evidence begins a marvellous snowball effect.

Arlidge certainly knows how to keep readers on the edges of their seats. Literally.

BOOK REVIEW: Paula’s new book drowns in its own self-importance

The chapters are short and punchy and switching between the character every few pages ensures the book and storyline continue to unravel at a marvelous pace.

I would never have been able to guess the ending of this book.

My suspicions were way off and crossed off the list well before the final few chapters.

While the story behind her release felt a bit manufactured and relied heavily on coincidence, I was still completely satisfied.

Bring on Love Me Not, the seventh book in the captivating series.
