Pinetown man stops house fire

The damage to the house is expected to be about R8 000. The home owner, Buti Masango, was not at home during the incident.

LOCAL resident, Andreas Mathios, doused a fire and helped rescue a Pinetown man yesterday.

Mathios heard a woman crying for help at his gate in Leeds Crescent in Pinetown.

“She was hysterical and shouted that the granny flat behind the main house was on fire and that the tenant was still inside,” he said.

Blue Security’s control room was contacted and tasked with notifying the fire department. Mathios grabbed his fire extinguisher, raced across the road. The tenant was now in the bathroom.

The fire started at the gas stove, attached to a 9kg bottle, and the flames were leaping up the wall.

With five bursts of the fire extinguisher, the fire was out and Blue Security’s armed response officers arrived at the scene.

The fire department arrived and established the cause of the fire ensure the area was safe.
