Fabulous reads – Quench your crime-thrilling thirst

Book review - The Thirst by Jo Nesbo.

The Thirst, Jo Nesbo, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9781 9112 15295

JO Nesbo’s The Thirst’s beginning is similar to many of the crime thrillers I have read; there has been a series of brutal murders and the police are struggling to catch the killer, so they call in the assistance of an obsessive and recovering alcoholic former top detective to seal the deal.

And the infamous Harry Hole is no exception.

Norway is being terrorised by a blood-thirsty killer, and with the media pressure mounting, police chief, Michael Bellman, practically blackmails Hole to return from his retired life as a criminal lecturer.

With his sharp instincts, Hole quickly realises that the murderer, who savagely uses a set of iron teeth to bite his victims and suck their blood, is the one killer he failed to catch.

This time he is determined to settle the score.

While this does sound run of the mill, the 11th installment of the series is a true red herring that will leave you guessing until the end.

Be prepared for some sneaky and elaborate plots, all nestled between several grisly murders, which incriminate a few characters and completely misleads you from the identity of the true mastermind.

As a newbie to the series, I was impressed by how Nesbo wrote the novel to stand on its own. This book is the perfect piece to get you hooked on the incredible series.
