Little Sebastian (5) survives his fight against cancer

"It is amazing to know our son has a second lease on life," - Sebastian's loving mother, Sylvie.

TWO loving parents were flung into the heart of the storm when their youngest child, Sebastian, was diagnosed with leukemia last year.

After months of hospital visits and countless nights of restless sleep, the family can now rest easy after their little fighter was announced cancer-free recently.

Sebastian was only four years old when he was diagnosed on Friday, 15 April, a date that will forever be ingrained in his parents’ minds.

During his treatment he went into septic shock.

A harrowing experience for all involved as the doctors did not believe he would make it through the night.

“We slept in the waiting room for a couple of days,” said his parents, Grant and Sylvie Eksteen.

“From a faith perspective, this helped us get through a lot.”

The family were notified they needed to be in Cape Town on Easter Sunday to have a bone marrow transplant, a risky procedure but one that offered their son a life line.

“We could not have done this without the incredible support of the community. It is amazing to know our son has a second lease on life and that this is because someone else out there in the world saved his life. This is incredible, thank you,” said his grateful mom.
