A COWIES Hill woman, who witnessed a young man being stabbed, rushed to his aid and is now being hailed as a Good Samaritan and hero.

Roslyn Agall never thought she would witness an attempted murder on Saturday, 2 September.

She was with her husband and daughter travelling on Buckingham Terrace towards the Westville Road traffic lights when she noticed a scuffle on the traffic island on Church Road.

Capt Elizabeth Squires, communications officer at Westville SAPS, said Agall wrote in her statement that she saw the victim, a 22-year-old man, allegedly being stabbed with a broken bottle and collapsing on the ground before the suspect fled.

“She said as soon as the traffic cleared she drove around to the entrance of KFC and saw the victim being attended to by a friend. With a clear arterial bleed to the arm, Mr Agall stripped off his shirt and belt and applied a tourniquet to stem the severe bleeding.

“Once the tide was stemmed, the Agall family helped the young man into their car and rushed him to Westville Hospital,” said Squires.

Squires confirmed a case of attempted murder was opened and is being investigated by Westville SAPS. Police confirmed the victim is a driver for a company situated near the scene of crime.

W/O Gerhard Visser visited the victim in hospital on Monday morning, 4 September, and reported that he was still in a critical condition, however, on Tuesday, Roslyn Agall confirmed the victim was awake and talking.

“So often we come across reports, even on social media, where people happily say that they saw something happen, but it takes true angels to take the step of committing themselves to potentially saving a stranger’s life. A sincere thank you and salute to the Agall family for your dedication and commitment to your fellow community members,” said Squires.
