16 arrested for drunken driving in Malvern

"It was disconcerting to note that drivers had their families in the vehicle while driving under the influence," station commander, Valarine Reddy.

MALVERN SAPS held a successful road block operation at the weekend which led to the arrest of 16 people.

According to Malvern SAPS communications officer, W/O Radhika Marimuthu the unit moved the operation to different spots in Malvern thus saturating all the focal points and ensuring all areas of the Malvern patrol area were covered.

The operation consisted of Metro police members and Malvern SAPS officers who performed their duty under the command and control of Lt- Col Valarine Reddy, the station commander of Malvern SAPS.

Lt –Col Reddy attributed the success of the operation to the excellent teamwork of the different units. She also stated that it was disconcerting to note that drivers had their families in the vehicle while driving under the influence.

“This showed not only a blatant disregard for the safety of their families but also for other road users,” she said.
