AMUKELA Dube is Forest View Primary School’s SPAR Star of the Month. AJ, as he is affectionately known by his peers and educators, recently celebrated his 13th birthday and joined the upper Highway school at the start of Grade 7, this year.
He wasted no time in settling in, whether it be in the classroom or on the sport’s field. AJ played cricket for the senior team in the 1st term, but it was the start of the rugby season he really looked forward to. The reason for this was obvious as his love for the sport developed game after game and try after try. AJ represented the FVPS 1st team and was the leading try scorer for the season. He played in the centre position as he possessed the speed and power to cut through his opposition’s defense.
Although it is only a few weeks into the third term, AJ has again excelled at athletics. He has broken two field records, including long jump and high jump.
The high jump record was first made at the school 21 years ago in 1996. Not only did AJ break this record but he set a new record, 7cm higher than the previous record. This was a really proud moment and the whole school watched and cheered AJ on. It was during the track events for athletics that he broke the 150 m record. He was awarded Victor Ludorum trophy for his outstanding performances.
The soccer season is just beginning and AJ was selected for the 1st team and is already proving to be a solid mid-fielder with an exceptional work rate on the field. AJ is a natural leader as the junior players look up to him. He can always be seen encouraging and motivating them to achieve their best.
He is a dedicated learner who produces punctual, accurate and neat work for his educators at all times. “We wish AJ all the best for his future at high school next year. With his natural talents and strong character, we know he will be successful at whatever he puts his mind to,” said Forest View Primary School’s public relations officer, Jean Montile.
