WBHS on a football winning streak, beats PBHS 3-0

Westville produced some good counter attacking opportunities in the last 10 minutes of the game.

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School had a strong disciplined performance against Pinetown Boys’ High this week to continue their winning streak.

After a strong start from Pinetown, Westville’s 1st football team adapted to the flow of the game and pressed Pinetown up the field to counter to counter the visiting team’s build up play.

Westville’s consistent defensive pressure started to pay off as they created numerous chances after winning the ball deep in Pinetown’s half.

In the 22nd minute, Westville opened the scoring with a well crafted goal. Westville midfielder Junior Zuma won the ball and played a well weighted pass out to right winger Bonga Makhanya, who then lofted a beautiful cross to the back pole for left winger, David Bartholomew to header home into the top left corner. The teams went into the break at 1-0 to Westville.

Both teams came out tentatively in the second half. Westville realised that 1-0 was a dangerous lead and needed more goals to seal the game.

In the 51st minute, Captain Reece Nyland played a good ball to Westville striker, Jordan Schwartz who picked up the ball on the left hand side of the pitch – he made a quick mazy run into the Pinetown box, beating three Pinetown defenders before slipping the ball under the Pinetown keeper to make the score 2-0 to Westville.

Confident play saw Westville midfielder, Ryan Way, gave a pass off to Westville striker Ethan Knott -who received it on the edge of the pinetown box- and spun beautifully before hammering his shot into the bottom left corner of the net. 3-0 to Westville.

Westville then started defending deeper and showed good defensive discipline to set up a defensive block and counter attack Pinetown when they won the ball. Westville produced some good counter attacking opportunities in the last ten minutes of the game. The game ended at 3-0 to Westville.
