Supporters flock to HACT to show support
It was a busy day at the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust on Mandela Day as residents and businesses gathered to uplift the organisation.
MANDELA Day was a busy one for HACT as it received a generous outpouring of support, love and care from the local community and businesses. St Dominic’s Church Hillcrest and Resource Recruitment were its first visitors of the day and both groups dropped off toiletry hampers for the Respite Unit patients.
A team from Marriott brought 24 beautifully wrapped toiletry hampers for those admitted in our Respite Unit as well as cupcakes for all HACT staff and patients. Digital Lab dropped by with clothes for its clothing scheme. Top Carpets and Floors brought an assortment of goods for the White Elephant shop, clothing scheme and Respite Unit. Denny Mushrooms brought a few boxes of their mushrooms to be cooked in the Respite Unit kitchen. The Garden Magazine donated lily bulbs and up-skilled our nursery team on improved germinating methods.

Woolworths at Hillcrest Corner was a force to be reckoned as they rolled up their sleeves to bead a Mandela Face art project. This will be sold in the Woza Moya shop. The team creatively decorated a piece of fence with their logo, delivered 30 food hampers for the patients and also pounded the pavement to sell an additional 50 stickers in 67 minutes and donated R5 000 towards our on-going projects.

Constantia Afripak, together with Nhlanhla from Woza Moya, created a Mandela Day art work which became the hotspot to take pictures for the rest of the day. A number of other big-hearted folks and families also stopped by and brought various items. “We send out a big thank you to all who came out, bought stickers, cleaned closets, and supported us in some way for Mandela Day,” said HACT’s CEO, Candace Davidson.
