Robin Hood entertains Ntshongweni children

After all the fun and goodies, the children received a school uniform, stationery, school bag, toys, blankets and food.

THE 130 orphaned and vulnerable children from Ntshongweni hosted by The Robin Hood Foundation at Stonehaven Castle will not forget Saturday, 29 July easily.

Driving past Stonehaven Castle back in February after completing a project Robin Hood did in Ntshongweni, RHF chairman, Cindy Norcott, said it would be awesome to bring some of these local children to this beautiful place.

“After five months and much planning, the day was made possible with the help of the incredible sponsorship from Imperial Managed Logistics and support of Runga Trans, Blair Atholl Kwikspar, Regal Meats, Splashes Fruit Juices, Expand A Sign, Ford Pinetown and Hirschs Hillcrest – who were on hand to treat all the Robin Hood volunteers to a hot fresh cappuccino. These 130 children – introduced to us by Christian Social Services – were treated to an incredible day of play and volunteer interaction, something they have never experienced.

“Complete with rides, trains, popcorn, candyfloss, hotdogs, ice-lollies, face-painters and a celebrity DJ and entertainer, Lloyd Paul, who rocked the castle,” said Robin Hood Foundation coordinator, Kim Griffith-Jones.

After all the fun every child was given a new school uniform, box of stationery, new school bag as well as a big Gogo bag filled with food, treats, a toy and a brand new blanket.

Norcott said the aim of this project, run for the past six years, is to spread hope in the lives of the young children, aged 3 to 15, who have suffered the devastating loss of parents and who are now being cared for by an older sibling, aunt, neighbour or their aging gogos.

“Can you imagine their excitement as they prepared for school on Monday morning with their new uniforms, stationery and hope for a great new term ahead.

“We are so grateful to our community for their support in helping to make a difference to these children and especially local resident Dave Leslie, owner of Stonehaven Castle, for opening up his ‘home’ to us and welcoming the children,” she said.
