Teenage mom arrested for abandoning baby

The baby was found in a refuse bag.

A TEENAGE girl was arrested yesterday (6 July) by KwaDabeka police for abandoning her new born baby in a bush in Clermont.

According to Pinetown SAPS communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, it is alleged the neighbour of the house where the girl (19) was working as a domestic worker phoned her employer to say she heard a baby crying in the nearby bush while she was walking to work.

“The employer asked the girl about the incident and she confirmed that she dumped the baby in the bush. The baby was found in the refuse bag,” said Manqele.

The girl is under police guard at the clinic and the baby is also receiving medical attention.
