HILLCREST High School’s SPAR Star of the Month is an extraordinary young man.
Timon de Waal (Grade 12) is not only a top academic achiever (in the top 10) having attained academic honours, but he is an all-rounder, playing 1st team soccer and achieving honours for public speaking.
Timon has also topped it off by becoming a prefect and being placed on the Student Leadership team this year, having only joined Hillcrest High last year.
Timon’s character is what stands out the most. He approaches challenges with gusto and is consistently hard-working, respectful and helpful towards others.
One of his most recent achievements is ‘best speaker’ at the recent prestigious EG Jansen Redenaars competition, where together with his teammate, Mandie Marais, emerged as the winners of the competition.
Timon also has a passion for motivational speaking.
Recently he did a sermon at his local church which was “nerve-wrecking” in Timon’s words. The sermon was streamed internationally via the Hope Channel Live Stream to San Antonio.
Timon said afterwards he had people phoning him from America. He wants to study medicine and become a medical missionary, possibly working for an organisation like Doctors without Borders.
His teacher, Ronel Jordaan spoke proudly of her student: “Timon is such a fantastic example to both his peers and everyone who has the pleasure to meet him. He treats everybody with respect and always does his best in everything he does.”
