Listen to experimental baroque music

Baroque 2000 will present a concert at Mariannhill Monastery this Sunday.

AFTER four performances as the resident orchestra at the 2017 Harare International Festival of the Arts, Baroque 2000 will present a concert at Mariannhill Monastery at 11.30am on Sunday 7 May.

David Snaith will be the soloist in Telemann’s viola concerto in G, and the programme includes two strikingly programmatic pieces: Telemann’s picturesque burlesque Suite, Don Quixote, and Biber’s Batallia, depicting various militaristic scenes, some in an audaciously experimental style, extraordinary even to modern ears.

Handel’s concerto grosso op6 no1 is the other work in this attractive offering.

Tickets are R150 at the door.

The Monastery tea garden will be open and parking is free and safe. More information email sursouth@iafrica.com or call Michel on 082 303 5241.
