Swop Muvo Card before expiry date

Muvo cards that expire in April or July 2017 must be swopped by August 2017 to receive a free replacement card.

THE eThekwini Municipality’s cashless payment system, Muvo SmartCard, which replaced the old paper coupon previously used on public transport, is not so new any more.

It celebrates five years of being in existence and like any ‘smartcard’ it will expire.

The cards which are currentl being used on Durban Transport buses, the People Mover and Mynah buses all have expiry dates and the first two batches, which were issued in 2012, will expire at the end of April 2017 and end of July 2017.

Commuters are advised to check for an expiry date on the front of their card, and if it expires in April or July 2017, it can be replaced, free of charge, until the end of August 2017.

After this period, commuters will be charged the normal fee of R20 for replacement cards.

When applying for a new card, commuters will need to produce their identity document and can do so at any mobile Muvo SmartVan or Paypoint.

After the expiry date, the cards will no longer work and you will not be able to load any trips.

Unused trips will be transferred to the new card immediately on swopping before the expiry date, however, after the expiry date, it will take seven days for the trips to reflect on the cards.

Going forward, commuters are reminded to continue checking the expiry date on their cards and to swop them prior to the card expiring.
