BREAKING NEWS: Shot fired during armed robbery at Watercrest Mall

A group of gunmen stole goods from a watch store in the popular shopping centre.

ARMED robbers are running amok in Durban with one incident taking place in Waterfall.

A gang of armed robbers was reported to have stormed Watercrest Mall and stole goods from a jewellery store.

According to Andreas Mathios, community liaison and media officer for Blue Security, the men smashed a window of Watches Unlimited.

“They made off with a substantial amount of loot,” he said.

Security guards gave chase as the robbers attempted to flee the scene.

Mathios noted the men climbed into a VW Polo “getaway” car.

One shot was fired as the men escaped and they made off with items of low value.

Watercrest Mall’s centre manager, Michelle Gerber, confirmed that a robbery took place.

“We can confirm that a robbery has taken place at Watches Unlimited withing the centre on Thursday evening at 8.15pm. The robbers removed an undisclosed amount of merchandise before fleeing the mall. The incident is currently under investigation with the SAPS. No injuries were sustained. Watercrest Mall would like to thank the SAPS and Thorburn Security for their quick response and support.”
