VIDEO: Fireman injured in Durban warehouse blaze

Strong winds and wax panels inside the warehouse are reportedly making it difficult for the fire department to deal with the blaze.

A FIREFIGHTER has reportedly been rushed to the hospital after he sustained burns to his hands while battling the massive fire in Durban.

The fire, which had engulfed a warehouse on South Coast Road has been raging since around 9am. The billowing spoke has been spotted as far as the Durban CBD, uMhlanga, Durban North and King Shaka International Airport.

According toe Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamesion wax panels inside the warehouse are making it difficult for the fire department to deal with the fire. He added that while fire fighters had managed to contain the fire to one building, strong winds were also fueling the blaze.

More than 20 fire engines reportedly are on scene.

 

The smoke can be seen for miles.

 

Authorities have now opted to using sand to keep the fire contained.

A second person – a 35-year-old man, who was reporedly working in the warehouse when the fire started, was also treated for burn wounds at the scene.
