Nibs helps raise funds for Hillcrest High’s debaters

Support the school's fund-raiser. Tickets cost R100 each.

HILLCREST High School is thrilled their debaters have been invited to participate in a prestigious international Debating Tour in the Czech Republic this year.

The learners and their parents have begun fund-raising initiatives.

With the generous help of legendary artist, Nibs van der Spuy, they are hosting a supper-theatre evening, with guest appearances from the school’s staff, Ronel Harmse (piano) and Georgina Giorko (vocals), at the school in Shortlands Avenue in Hillcrest this Saturday, 25 March at 7pm.

Nibs van der Spuy is one of the most extraordinary and exciting, acoustic guitarists.

Hillcrest High School’s debating tour team look forward to competing in the International Debating tour in the Czech Republic later this year.

Raised in KZN, Nibs immersed himself in his natural environment to formulate a truly consummate and original sound.

Growing up with the Beatles and learning first hand from traditional Zulu Maskandi guitarists, he quickly soaked up a rich tapestry of his close surroundings and beyond.

After playing the local folk scene around South Africa for years and gathering up a loyal following, his big stage break came after supporting Crosby, Stills and Nash on their 1996 South African tour.

He then signed up with Sheer (South African World Music label) where he has released more than 10 albums.
