Install hi-tech equipment to deter crime

A CHURCH in Malvern was recently broken into during the early hours of the morning. The robbers are alleged to have stolen sound equipment, a television set and other items.

“They were disturbed and fled the scene. Some of the items were recovered in the nearby bushes by a member of the church. This is the second break-in where a church has been the target in the area. Sound items and television sets are the focus of the suspects,” said corporate communications officer, W/O Radhika Marimuthu.

She said businesses and faith-based organisations are cautioned to increase their security.

“It will be prudent to install CCTV cameras, preferably using colour in a high resolution to avoid grainy pictures. The footage of suspects that are of a high pixel resolution is prime content that is published widely to procure information about the suspects. Electric fencing is also a good deterrent.”

“It is wise to secure areas where valuables are stored with moon locks and a coded entry, including voice, eye and hand simulation,” said W/O Marimuthu.

While these might be expensive additions, she said that these gadgets will impede, thwart and frustrate the robbers.

“High powered sensors in ceilings will also prove a good security tool. Ensure good lighting in and around the premises so that suspects can be detected easily. Remove huge palms and shrubbery around the perimeter as this is a perfect hiding zone. Suspects also use huge trees and palms to climb into a property,” she added.

Lt-Col Valarine Reddy said it is important to secure your property in the most hi-tech manner possible as a deterrent to criminals.
