Bikers rev up R20 000 for Ethelbert home

PRO at Ethelbert, Gaylene Allen, said the annual stationery run is becoming somewhat of a tradition that the home could not do without.

A BACK to school charity run for the Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre was organised by the Wild Stallions recently. Bikers from all over KZN flogged the Queensburgh Rugby Club despite the wet weather conditions to support the event.

The children were invited to the event and enjoyed a scrumptious lunch sponsored by members of Wild Stallions MCC KZN. They were also taken on bike rides.

Generous offers made by the bikers and money raised from raffles, food and drink stalls added up to R20 000 for the children’s stationery needs.

President of Wild Stallions MCC KZN, Alwyn Bunce, said it was a privilege to help those in need.

“This is something one could only understand by working hand-in-hand with these children and getting to know them personally. The Wild Stallions MCC KZN managed to raise R20 000 in stationery raffles and donations,” he said.

Bunce said the drive took months of planning and they were totally reliant on sponsors from the public and business enterprises.

“We will most definitely do it again, hard work or not. On behalf of Wild Stallions MCC KZN and Ethelbert Child and Youth Care Centre I would like thank all those who supported this run and would like to ask the public, whether bikers or not, to get involved,” he said.

PRO at Ethelbert, Gaylene Allen, said the annual stationery run is becoming somewhat of a tradition that the home could not do without.

“This year they raised funds and stationery donations that benefited 43 of our school-going children. The cost of school stationery for this many children is more than R20 000, so the support we received from the stationery run helped to cover costs. We are in a fortunate position to have dedicated volunteers and supporters such as Jill Clack and the Wild Stallions. We are grateful to have them working in our corner as they have brought us incredible sponsorship and support with the 2016 and 2017 stationery runs, for which we are very grateful,” she said.

Donations such as clothing, food and funds are always needed at the home. If you would like to make a donation of any kind, call Gaylene on 031 464 6555, e-mail pro@ethelbert.co.za or visit www.ethelbert.co.za.
