One injured as vehicle rear-ends truck on M19

It took emergency services more than half an hour to free the driver from the wreckage.

NETCARE 911 paramedics responded to a collision along the M19 Durban bound lane earlier today.

According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, reports from the scene indicated that a bakkie lost its load causing a truck to stop. The driver of a light duty vehicle (LDV) who was travelling towards Durban was unable to stop in time and rear-ended the truck.

“Paramedics and the fire services arrived at the scene and found the driver of the LDV trapped in the wreckage of his truck with critical injuries. While the firemen used the Jaws of Life to free the man, paramedics from various services worked hand in hand to stabilise him,”  said Botha.

After the driver was freed from the wreckage, they placed him on a ventilator before transporting him to hospital.
