Police pounce on Durban drug dealers

Four suspects who were arrested in Mariannhill were found with more than 446 capsules of heroin and two mandrax tablets as well as dagga parcels.

POLICE operations led to the arrest of five alleged drug dealers in Mariannhill and at the Point last night. The suspects were found to be in possession of drugs to the tune of R20 000.

The Durban Flying Squad Narcotic Drug Task Team did operations after receiving a tip-off, according to KZN police spokesman, Lt/Col Thulani Zwane.

He said the first arrest was made at Point area, Durban where a foreigner (55) was caught with 20 grams of crystal methacathinone and one large packet of crystal and four small packets of crystal with a street value of R6 000.

“The members then moved to Marianhill area where they arrested four more suspects aged between 25 and 35 for being in possession of drugs in separate incidents.

“They were found in possession of more than 446 capsules of heroin and two mandrax tablets as well as dagga parcels to the street value of more than R14 000,” said Zwane.

The KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Bheki Langa was pleased with the arrest and the recovery of drugs in and around Durban the past week.

“Police are conducting a number of operations aiming to get rid of drugs in our society. We also appreciate the information we received from the community about people who are dealing in drugs,” he said.
