Poppy Day donations raise much-needed funds

More than a dozen people helped collect donations for the ex-servicemen and women through the sale of poppies.

THE annual SA Legion fundraiser was the Poppy Day collection and was a resounding success throughout the Kloof.

The SA Legion, in conjunction with the MOTHs (Memorable Order of Tin Hats) and the learners from Kloof High School, held collections at the Kloof SPAR in the Field’s Centre and at the Woolworths in Kloof.

“I am a member of the SA Legion and the Poppy Day Collection is the one fundraiser that raises a lot of money once a year which helps ex-servicemen and women that are in need,” said Peter Leonard Shattock

“I would like you to convey our thanks to all Poppy Day collectors, and the learners from Kloof High School who took time off from their studies to assist in the Poppy Day collection. On behalf of the SA Legion and the MOTHs, we are extremely grateful for their assistance in standing, very smartly dressed in their school uniforms doing this service to the community. They were all in their various places from 8am on Saturday, 12 November through to noon. It was a very successful day. At the same time I would like to thank the Highway community for their very generous donations, and it is about remembering those who laid down their lives to give us our today and tomorrow,” said Peter.
