Malvern home celebrates 53rd anniversary

PR and fundraising manager, Lee Jarrett thanked all the sponsors and supporters for making the celebration extra special.

DESPITE the rainy conditions on Saturday, 5 November, the Malvern Child and Youth Care Centre pulled out all the stops to celebrate their 53 year anniversary.

Supporters of the event enjoyed fun and games, the food and beverage stalls, the non-stop entertainment line-up that included a special visit by Sharkie, as well as Durban’s favourite K9 Smart Dog Show, dazzling Bollywood and street dance performances, live music courtesy of the DHS Brass band, local favourite, Gerhard Supra and a roaring display from the His Kingdom Riders motorcycle club.

The Malvern Child and Youth Care Centre’s choir performed a special rendition of Happy Birthday, and Mrs India 2014, Tracy Maharaj, rounded-up the entertainment programme by drawing the winning ticket for the seven-night luxury vacation, sponsored by the Vacation Club, as well as the handover of other fantastic prizes.

The winning ticket holder, Susan Koekemoer from Malvern, will have the choice of a luxury holiday from a list of 20 popular holiday destinations countrywide.

PR and fundraising manager, Lee Jarrett said: “We would like to thank the community for braving the wet conditions and joining us in celebrating our 53rd-year milestone of caring for 120 orphaned and vulnerable children. A special word of thanks to all our sponsors who made this event possible, to the Little Cake Company for our amazing birthday cake, the entertainers and MC that gave so freely of their time and talents to entertain us and our team of volunteers without whom this day would not have been possible”.
