Westville man shot dead

Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and the man was declared dead at the scene.

A MAN believed to be in his 40s was shot and killed in an alleged house robbery, in Westville, last night. According to Rescue Care, paramedics were called to the scene in Chearsley Road just after 8pm. On arrival, Advanced Life Support Paramedics found the victim in a critical condition after he sustained a single gunshot wound.

In a post on social media, Rescue Care further stated that paramedics worked on the critically injured man, however he went into cardiac arrest. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and the man was declared dead at the scene.

At this stage, the exact circumstances leading up to the shooting are unknown. Westville SAPS were at the scene and will be investigating further.

This incident comes two months after a Westville father was shot dead when he tried to protect his family from intruders. Gary Mackay, a father of two was shot in his abdomen during a robbery in his Westville home at about 4am on 3 September.

According to reports, Mackay heard noises downstairs and went to investigate. He was confronted by the three robbers and was shot during a struggle.
