Rotary Club honours Catherine Raw

The Westville Girls' High School principal was inducted as a honorary member of the Rotary Club of Westville.

THE Rotary Club of Westville inducted Catherine Raw, the principal of Westville Girls’ High School, as an honorary member recently.

Catherine was educated at Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School, holds a BA Honours degree and furthered her education with an advanced certificate in leadership. Her previous experience in schools include Crawford Durban, Rossburgh High and Durban Girls’ High School.

Catherine joined the Westville community in 2001 as head of the dramatic arts department at Westville Girls’ High School. At that stage she did not anticipate she would ever be principal and expected to stay for five or six years before moving on. Very quickly she found herself completely involved in the life of the school and the broader community. Her daughter was educated at Westville schools – she was in Grade 1 in 2001.

Ms Raw was acting principal in 2012 and in March the following year, was appointed as principal of Westville Girls’ High School.

Catherine has been privileged enough to attend international conferences on education and firmly believes the Westville schools compare favorably with excellent schools world-wide.

Under her principalship, Westville Girls’ High School joined the World Leading Schools Association (WLSA) this year. Six young women from the school attended a Youth Leadership Conference in China as part of WLSA.

Sue Walker, public relations chairman of the Rotary Club of Westville said: “Ms Raw is committed to developing future young leaders for South Africa. It was with great pleasure that President Rob Hogg inducted Catherine Raw as a honorary member of our Rotary Club of Westville,”
