A NEW Germany businessman and his employees were lucky to escape uninjured after a gang of armed men fired shots at them last night in Westville.

According to Blue Security’s operations manager, Brian Jackson, the businessman and his staff were closing up the Rodger Sishi (Blair Atholl) Road business at about 7.40pm when the armed men ambushed them and opened fire. “The gang fired almost 10 shots at the businessman and his employees as they were closing the door to the property. Fortunately, the gunmen missed and no injuries were reported,” he said.

He added that a vehicle parked on the premises was damaged during the shooting. Nothing was reported stolen.

In a separate incident in Bellair, a hijacker fired a shot at a man attempting to help a motorist in Sarnia Road. “Two hijackers held up the motorist after he parked his vehicle outside a shop. A member of the public tried to come to his rescue, but hijackers fired a shot in his direction and fortunately missed. No injuries were reported,” he said.
