Seven pupils from the Botha's Hill school won a host of awards at a special Olympics event in Chatsworth recently.

T’SHINGA Training College’s athletes participated and won a host of awards at a special Olympics inter-school athletics event at the Chatsworth Stadium recently.

Of the seven athletes, Robin Dekker won shot put and the 100m sprint in the boys’ age group from 16 to 22-years-old. Tao de Chalain placed second in the 400m and tied for second place for shot put in the girls’ age group from 12 to 15-years-old. Olwethu Bhengu won the 400m and placed third for shot put in the girls’ age group from 16 to 22-years-old. Londiwe Kunene won the 50m and tied for second place in the shot put in the girls’ 12 to 15-years-old age group.

Storm Hill won the shot put and 50m in the girls’ age group from 16 to 22-years-old, Mememe Ngcobo won the 100m and long jump in the boys’ age group from 16 to 22-years-old and Mpho Kunene won shot put and the 100m in the girls’ age group from 12 to 15-years-old.

The pupils competed against 11 other schools and centres and trained four days a week since July for this competition and their hard work paid off. “From the previous occasions we’ve competed, only a few of the pupils placed, but this time around they took top positions in each of their events and it was because they all trained so hard. It was such a great culmination for our Olympic theme at school,” said Belinda Padbury, a teacher at the school.
