Cowies Hill resident competes for Mr SA title

"My love for this country, the people, the way of life and its incredible nature and landscapes was one of the reasons I entered Mr SA."

COWIES Hill resident and Mr SA finalist, Ashley Eddy is determined to pursue his modelling career, despite being turned away as a teenager.

“I wanted to start modelling as a teenager, but I was turned away as I was too short and did not have a specific look they were looking for. I forgot about the idea of modelling for many years until I felt the drive to give it another try. I took up modelling in the beginning to show a new artistic real life side of myself, as I am an artist I always drew portraits of others and I wanted to become the art,” said Eddy, the current Mr Ushaka 2016.

He said he has many dreams of being a part of this country’s success. “My love for this country, the people, the way of life and its incredible nature and landscapes was one of the reasons I entered Mr SA. “I also have personal dreams I wish to accomplish with the Mr South Africa title and one of them is to give back to my old primary school, Addington Primary School. It is a 120 year old government school and has battled for many years, financially.” He said he recently accomplished one of those dreams when he built a self-sustainable organic garden at the school with the help of his sponsors.

“The garden will feed pupils at the school and will generate money by selling the surplus harvest to food chain stores. We need to work together to make the country great and a prosperous place to live in. I want to contribute to that by educating the youth through developmental and mentoring programmes, hosting charity drives to create awareness about women and children abuse and highlight the rights of women and children. I also want to create awareness in communities of how to lead a healthy and productive lifestyle and be role model for boys and men.”

He added that he has had the best experiences so far, being a finalist.

“There have been so many amazing experiences so far, but if I had to choose, it would have to be the amazing women, children and young adults I have had the pleasure of meeting either at charity events or inspirational speaking for my various charity organisations at school project activation’s.

Ashley appealed for residents to vote for him so that he could make it to the top 12 selection. To vote, SMS MRSA002 to 47439.
