SprayPave apologises for illegal dumping in Botha’s Hill

The Botha's Hill company, SprayPave, came under heavy fire from concerned residents after an illegal dumping incident in Patna Road.

PHOTOS of SprayPave employees illegally dumping barrels of bitumen along Patna Road in Botha’s Hill went viral on social media on Wednesday afternoon.

SprayPave’s managing director, Steven Single, said that the men pictured dumping the product are SprayPave employees using the work vehicle. He also noted that they were dumping the waste in their own capacity and not under the instruction from management or staff. “They are currently suspended pending further investigation. The highest possible sanction will be imposed on any party found guilty in this regard.”

The SprayPave management team was informed of the incident on Wednesday, 7 September at around 1.30pm by the Botha’s Hill Community Watch. “Our senior environmental officer and branch manager were immediately dispatched and were on site within the hour. After assessing the situation a clean-up plan was actioned and has since been completed. All relevant authorities were informed and are being addressed currently,” said Single.

“SprayPave accepts full responsibility and accountability for these actions. I will personally be meeting with the relevant authorities and the concerned community members. On behalf of the management and staff of Spraypave, we humbly apologise to the community of Botha’s Hill,” he concluded.

Bruce Black, the Senior Environmental Health Practitioner for eThekwini said, “SprayPave acknowledged responsibility for the staff members actions. We will continue to monitor the site and have instructed the company to implement strict controls over the disposal of partially empty drums to prevent a recurrence of the problem.”
