Donation knits together a firm partnership

More than 300 women and children will benefit from the joint project between Thomas More College and the Open Door Crisis Care Centre.

THOMAS More College was proud to partner with the Open Door Crisis Centre in Pinetown as part of a new high school outreach portfolio initiative, The Knitting Project.

Once the school knew that the NPO was on board, this small project soon gained momentum as Open Door rallied up a group of very enthusiastic knitters, the oldest was 91 years old. to knit countless beautiful items. Thomas More then equipped the knitting group with all the resources needed to produce a display of more than 400 knitted items including beanies, blankets and booties.

In an assembly on Monday, 15 August, the pupils handed over the knitted items to be distributed to the local organisation’s beneficiaries.

In celebration of women’s month, Open Door will hand the knitted items to women and children in need during an outreach event in KwaNyuswa.

“As this project has exceeded all of our expectations, Thomas More hopes to continue and extend their relationship with the Open Door Crisis Centre and looks forward to making a difference in the lives of others,” said Philip Lanz, the head of outreach at TMC.
