New councillor aims for social cohesion

I feel like we should assist each other, work together as Chesterville and Westville- Cllr Sfiso Mngadi.

THE 3 August brought about change and new faces in most South African communities with the local government elections.

Ward 24 has a new councillor, 33-year-old Sfiso Braveman Mngadi. Ward 24 includes Ridge View, Transit Camp, Chesterville Extention 1,2 and 3, Jamaica and parts of Westville. Mngadi grew up in Chesterville and has been an active member of the community.

“I have worked in the community of Westville, getting involved with the Rotary Club and the Westville Country Club.

He loves politics, “I grew up in Chesterville and it is the home of political activity, with the dominance of Umkhonto Wesizwe and the ANC,” he said.

Mngadi said he has worked hand in hand with people in leadership and hopes to improve his community by getting involved and working with various non-government organisations.

He hopes to bring unity between the people of Chesterville and Westville, “The backgrounds of people from Westville and Chesterville are different, the needs are also different. I will implement the aims and objectives of the ANC which are unity, non-racial, non-sexist and a prosperous community,” he said.

Mngadi promises to ensure the community at large has their needs met. He said he will encourage social cohesion and work on understanding the social needs of the ward.

“I feel we should assist each other, work together as Chesterville and Westville,” he said.

Mngadi feels that safety comes first and before he can implement any propjets the community must feel safe.

Mngadi plans to meet all the community stakeholders including all the safety structures soon, to ensure they work together.

“Both communities, Westville and Chesterville value the community they come from in a different way, we can use that love in a good way and bring about change,” he said.
