German volunteer joins Malvern Home

Lisa Burwitz had the choice to work with two other homes in Gauteng and Cape Town.

CHILDREN at the Malvern Child and Youth Care Centre (CYCC) have welcomed Lisa Burwitz, a volunteer from Germany, with big smiles and wide open arms.

After been given the option to choose one of three Child and Youth Care Centres, the other two in Gauteng and Cape Town, Burwitz said that she was thrilled that she chose to be in Durban and is loving every minute of working with the children.

“My passion for children and travel have brought me to the perfect place to serve as a volunteer as part of my community service and I am looking forward to my stay until April next year,” said Burwitz.

“We are very excited to welcome Lisa to our family and hope that she will enjoy her experience with us as we share our different languages, cultures and traditions with each other. This is a wonderful platform for young adults from overseas to visit our country and gain valuable experience about our communities and children’s homes. Over the years, Malvern CYCC has been chosen by a number of young German volunteers and each time it is a privilege to welcome and host them at our home,” said PR and fundraising manager, Lee Jarrett.

The Malvern Child and Youth Care Centre cares for 120 vulnerable and orphaned children. Through its developmental programmes, the home is committed to helping each child reach their full potential by providing a loving safe haven, three meals a day, access to education and therapeutic support.
