Melanie looks to uplift Ward 18

The DA won 77.46 percent of the votes in Ward 18.

MEET the new Ward 18 councillor, Melanie Fraser Brauteseth.

Melanie, a DA representative, replaces Bruce Sutcliffe for Ward 18. The areas that fall under the area of Ward 18 are Pinetown, Cowies Hill and Westville North.

She described herself as a people’s person, coming from a community background of helping several organisations.

“As a woman, I hope to bring diversity to the community and as a mother, I’d like this area to be able to run well for future generations,” said Melanie.

Melanie worked in operations administration, as well as health and safety which relates to compliance. She strongly believes she can make a difference in uplifting the community of Pinetown, Cowies Hill and Westville North and wants to work on providing solutions for all service delivery issues.

The 43-year-old Cowies Hill resident is the wife of former Ward 18 councillor, Tim Brauteseth and has two children, Kay (19) and Jordan (9). Her hobbies includes community work, reading, yoga and jogging.

“My ultimate goal for this area is to bring Lahee Park back into stature to allow a safe environment with sporting events for the community to enjoy. The area has everything but its needs to be utilised,” said Melanie.

Armed with her motto, “always put others’ needs first”, she believes she can be the ‘champion can do’ person for the community.

The DA won 77.46 percent of the votes in Ward 18, followed by the ANC with 18.23 percent. The EFF was third with 1.61 percent of the votes.
