Mayor’s report questionable and flawed

Letter to the Editor – week ending 22 July 2016.

EDITOR – I refer to your article ‘Confusion over the billing system’, edition, Friday 15 July 2016.

James Nxumalo, it would have been in the best interest of residents, and the municipality for that matter, for residents

to be advised before the new billing system kicked in, that there was to be a delay in them receiving their utility bills.

Once again, the municipality has failed the people by not advising them timeously, and issuing your report in the Highway

Mail, dated 15 July, does nothing to allay fears of the dismal and very questionable organisation, or lack thereof, by eThekwini.

Included in the fiasco is your statement that winter bills are higher due to extra consumption of electricity – does this

then mean, that in summer our electricity bills will be halved (an answer to this from you would be appreciated).

And in the same vein, with the drought, water restrictions and reduced water usage in place, water-paying residents

should not be paying as much for water due to this, but unfortunately this is not the case – less water should equal less cost to residents – yes?

It is high time the municipality comes clean and is transparent regarding decisions that are made regarding honest, tax-paying, law-abiding citizens of Durban, bearing in mind that elections are around the corner.
