PHOTOS: Bowlers show up in numbers for charity

FIVE local bowling clubs simultaneously hosted bowlers of different calibres at the annual fun bowls tournament fundraiser for the Flame Lily Park frail care facility. This year’s event was bigger and better.

Bowling enthusiasts flocked Ridley Park BC, Queensburgh BC, Firwood BC, Hillary BC and the Durban Wanderers BC on Sunday, 1 May, for a day of fun and entertainment. The format consisted of two regular bowlers, and two ‘fun bowlers’ and for this reason, families and friends were able to join in on this fun day for a very worthy cause. After the bowls, everyone was invited to Flame Lily Park for prizegiving, entertainment, and food and drinks.

Most frail care facilities require a lot of money to operate throughout the year and Flame Lily’s facility is no different. Funds are generated primarily via donations and fundraising by Flame Lily Park and the MOTH organisation. The tournament was started on 1 May 2012, dedicated to the memory of the late MOTH, Vernon Corbishley, founder of Flame Lily Park. Over the past four years, this tournament has helped raise close to R200 000 toward the running of the facility.
