Jazz vocalist to perform at Seaman’s Corner

Artist, Thobeka Langa will perform some of her compositions and favorite jazz standards as well some pop songs from her favourite vocalists.

JAZZ vocalist, Thobeka Langa, will take the stage at Seaman’s Corner in Hammarsdale on Sunday, 1 May at 6pm.

The 27-year-old from Pietermaritzburg developed her love for music at a young age. She started singing at grass roots level with a community gospel group called Change, in PMB. It was therefore no surprise when she enrolled for her studies in performing arts at the Mbongeni Ngema Academy, immediately after completing matric. She further pursued her music studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Howard College School of Arts, where she specialised in jazz and popular music.

As part of her Bachelor of Practical Music degree, Langa passed performance cum laude. This, as well as her performance at the launch of the UNISA School of Music, earned her a scholarship to study towards her master’s degree at North Carolina Central University. She was also privileged to be selected as a lead vocalist for a student band that represented the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s School of Arts music exchange programme at the Virginia Commonwealth University Music School (Virginia, Richmond, USA) in October 2013.

In Hammarsdale, Langa will perform some of her compositions and favorite jazz standards, but she will also perform some pop songs by her favourite vocalists from way back.

Langa’s band for this performance will include Ndumiso Ndlovu on keys, Senzo Mdamba on bass guitar and Stanley Matlou on drums and, of course, Thobeka Langa on vocals.

Seaman’s Corner is situated at Unit 3, Hammarsdale, Mpumalanga. Tickets cost R30 at the door.
