Man shot on foot bridge

Residents are urged to never walk alone on that bridge, to always be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activities to the police.

A MAN was shot on the foot bridge on the M7 and Solomon Mahlangu (Edwin Swales) Drive on Thursday, 31 March, police said. Acting communications officer, W/O Prakash Kumar, said the man was walking alone when the incident happened.

“The man was robbed at gunpoint. He was trying to run away when they shot him on the left side of his torso. He managed to walk all the way to Southway Mall and collapsed at a restaurant,” he said. Emergency services attended to him. The incident happened at about 10.30am and the SAPS encourage residents to take extra caution when walking on the bridge.

W/O Kumar said Bellair SAPS works closely with Umbilo SAPS to monitor the bridge. “We do cross-border operations where we patrols the area with the Umbilo SAPS, especially during peak hours in the morning and afternoon.”
