Two injured in Westmead collision

A motorist and pedestrian were injured when a car crashed into a bakkie on Alexander Road in Westmead this morning.

TWO people, a 28-year-old man and 25-year-old woman, were hurt when after a car crashed into a bakkie and pedestrian on Alexandra Road in Westmead, Pinetown earlier this morning (Friday, 11 March).

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesman, when paramedics arrived on the scene they found both vehicles on the side of the road, while the pedestrian lay on the pavement.

“Paramedics assessed the pedestrian and found that he had suffered severe leg injuries, while the driver of the light motor vehicle had escaped with minor injuries. Paramedics treated them before transporting them to nearby hospitals,” said Meiring.

The man was taken to RK Khan Hospital and the woman to Life Crompton Hospital. It is alleged that the car crashed into the stationary bakkie and then hit the pedestrian. Local authorities are investigating.
