Armed gang pose as painters in Westville

Four men gained access to a company in Westville and stole three computers.

A GANG of armed robbers posed as painters and held up a security guard at a business premises in Westville last Thursday morning.

Blue Security’s operations manager, Brian Jackson, said four armed men arrived at the business premises in Nelson Road at around 6am in a light blue Toyota RunX.

“The gang told the security guard at the gate that they were painters and as soon as he opened the gate, two of the men pulled out firearms,” he said.

The men used a screw driver to force open the front door and fled with three computers and a television. There were no injuries reported. The Westville SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Jackson advised business owners and residents to regularly remind employees and domestic staff of security procedures and to ensure that any visitors were correctly identified before being allowed access onto the property. “Criminals pose as municipal employees and contractors to gain entry into homes and businesses, so it is vital that people are vigilant and that domestic workers and staff insist on seeing contractors’ identity cards even if the visitors arrive wearing branded uniforms,” he said.
