Be a SARDA volunteer

SARDA Durban provides a unique therapeutic riding programme to schools for children with special needs.

THE South African Riding for the Disabled Association’s Durban branch is calling on volunteers for the 2016 programme of Therapy in Motion. People are needed to step forward to assist in the arena as from Monday, 8 February.

SARDA Durban provides a unique therapeutic riding programme to schools for children with special needs. There is no charge for the schools or families. The programme runs on weekday mornings throughout the year and is manned by volunteers.

Volunteer, Linda Wilson, said to ensure the children gain maximum benefit from therapeutic riding in a safe environment, each class is led by a qualified instructor with a volunteer team assisting as side walkers or pony leaders.

“There’s nothing to beat fresh air, happy kids and our wonderful ponies in the lovely countryside in Assagay. The sheer joy of the children as they develop their bodies, minds and skills on horseback is wonderful to see,” said Wilson.

Training classes on pony leading skills, first aid in and out of the arena, the role of side walkers and the benefits of riding therapy will be held during February. Contact Linda on 083 372 1881 or www.durban@sarda.co.za.
