WBHS takes on Hilton in waterpolo

WBHS won eight out of 13 games against Hilton.

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School had a busy weekend of water polo fixtures against Hilton, with a total of 13 games being played throughout the day.

WBHS had a slight edge over the visitors, winning eight games, and Hilton winning five.

Hilton was strong in the U14 age group, winning two out of the three games. The visitors’ under-14A side, which was packed with provincial primary school players, was far too good for the WBHS team, most of whom only started playing the game three weeks ago.

The shoe was on the other foot in the under-15 division, where WBHS proved too strong for the visitors by winning all three games. WBHS dominated the senior age groups, winning from first to fourth and only losing the 16A and fifth team games.

In the first team match, the first quarter was well-contested with both teams scoring two goals a piece. WBHS came to life in the second quarter, scoring two goals in the first few minutes to double their lead. Hilton came back with another goal to trial by one, but WBHS scored their fifth to go into half-time with a 5-3 lead.

WBHS controlled the second half of the game on attack and didn’t give Hilton any chances on their score. The hosts added two more goals in the third quarter to lead 7-3.

WBHS left the best to the last by completely dominating the final quarter, outscoring Hilton by four goals to nil. By full-time, the home side had won the game 11-3.

WBHS goal-scorers were Aden Parker (3), Richard Young (2), Gareth Lillywhite (3), Yaseen Margro (1), Steven Landsberg (1) and Brandon Mostert (1).
