Security guard shot in New Germany

Shots were fired during a robbery in New Germany this morning and a security guard was wounded.

A SECURITY guard was shot while on duty at a business premises in New Germany this morning.

Blue Security’s operations manager, Brain Jackson, said a vehicle tracking company alerted two security guards at the business in Otto Volek Road that a warning signal had gone off on several of the parked vehicles. The signal notified the tracking company that the batteries of the trucks parked on the property were being tampered with. This occurred at about 2.30am.

“The security guards went to investigate and confronted two men who were busy stealing batteries. One of the men fired a shot that hit one of the security guards in his thigh before they fled the scene,” said Jackson.

Netcare 911 paramedics attended the scene and treated the guard on site before taking him to a local hospital.

Jackson said eight truck batteries were reported stolen. Pinetown SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating.
