Young KwaNdengezi man donates shoes

Mchunu 's love and passion to help others was inspired by his grandmother.

A YOUNG man from KwaNdengezi – Nkanyiso Mchunu (21) – has dedicated his life to changing people’s lives for the better.

Mchunu is studying business studies at the UKZN Westville campus and started an organisation last year, Inkanyiso Foundation, which is a non-profit organisation that provides support for children in schools around Durban.

Last week Friday, Mchunu donated 30 pairs of school shoes to KwaManzini Primary School in KwaNdengezi and 20 pairs to other underprivileged children in his community.

Mchunu said he used the money that he fund-raised from a car wash recently to buy the 50 pairs of school shoes. He said the love and passion to help others was inspired by his grandmother.

“My gran used to tell me that I should continue helping people achieve their dreams, because by doing so, I could achieve my own. She worked at Careways and always supported me before she succumbed to cancer late last year.”

He said he chose to donates school shoes after seeing children in his community walking to school barefoot. “Some pupils do no go to school when it is raining because they do not have proper shoes. They end up losing so much of their schooling because of their unfortunate situation,” he explained.

Mchunu describes himself as an entrepreneur who has engaged in many fields of business, from selling clothes and underwear to being an online motivator. “I enjoy dealing with people and their complexities in trying to change or help them and seek a better future with achievable goals.

“The foundation aims to foster commitment to young people that will promote social friendships, strong interpersonal skills and reassert a sense of hope in the future generation; also to enhance people’s knowledge about their communities and seek to create future opportunities for the youth to ensure effective communication becomes a regular and ongoing component of the process,” he added.

Mchunu would like people to know about the foundation and would be grateful for any support and sponsorship to continue his wishes for the underprivileged people.
