Municipal problem dumped on Pinetown residents

The family is asking for the municipality to get involved and help clean up the area.

A FAMILY in Manors are fed up with the illegal dumping taking place outside their home.

“This problem has been ongoing for about three years. It is horrible to look at and we are continuously having to clean it up,” said Penny Krauspe. “We recently filled up two large trailer loads of rubbish and paid for the contents to be dumped legally.”

Locals and outsiders have used the empty piece of land at the intersection of Scott Road and Crompton Street. “People have been found stripping parts there for the metal, but we have also seen a few residents in the area dump boot-loads of rubbish under the tree,” said Krauspe.

She recently caught two men dismantling a geyser for its metal parts and confronted them. “I saw them and asked them to please take their rubbish away with them when they were done taking apart the geyser. One of the men grabbed a piece of invaluable scrap and made a point of placing it on top of the already growing pile of rubbish, while I was watching. It is a never-ending battle,” said Krauspe.

Every six months, the family does a clean-up at the intersection and removes the junk at their own cost. “All we want is for the municipality to take action and clean up the area where we stay. My husband, who is in IT, has even been blamed a few times for the rubbish on the corner as most of the pieces there are the leftovers of electronic components. Not only is it unsafe but it looks terrible,” she concluded.
