Elderly couple fights off intruder

The robber escaped with items valued at R24 000.

AN elderly couple in their 70s fought off an intruder when they were robbed in Waterfall on Wednesday morning.

According to Hillcrest SAPS communications officer, Cst Ndumiso Manqele, the husband (76) woke up to get some water and was confronted by an unknown man in the kitchen.

“The alleged robber pushed the victim and they started wrestling down the passage. The old man screamed for his wife to contact the police.”

Manqele said the wife managed to grab the intruder and scratched him in the face and on his neck.

“The robber climbed out of the window and fled the scene. Two cellphones, two tablets and a laptop were stolen.

“It is alleged that the intruder gained entry to the premises by bending the burglar gate”, he added.

No one has been arrested yet and police are still investigating.
