Free Festive Concert with KZN Philharmonic

Entry to the Durban City Hall is free and everyone is welcome.

THE remarkable KZN Philharmonic Orchestra is graciously giving the people of Durban a Christmas present – a free concert of favourite festive fare in the Durban City Hall on Saturday, December 12 at 11am.

Included in the programme will be timeless carols and more contemporary festive sacred and secular numbers, including Joy to the World and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

The concert will feature Cape Town-based jazz vocalist, Amy Walton, who will be adding her own jazz magic to familiar tunes such as Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Last Christmas.

KZN Philharmonic Artistic Director Bongani Tembe said the December holidays present a wonderful opportunity for the people of Durban to celebrate families and togetherness.

“This concert will show the lighter side of our orchestra as we will present an eclectic, carefully-chosen programme that is perfect for all ages. The orchestra will also be joined by some young student musicians from the KZN province and of course Santa is rumoured to be making an appearance,” said Tembe.

The KZN Philharmonic is widely regarded as Africa’s premier orchestra. Consisting of 70 full-time musicians from 20 countries, the orchestra has earned a reputation for excellence, innovation and high artistic values. The orchestra presents three symphony seasons a year, and a comprehensive education and community engagement programme. This concert is part of their proactive community outreach initiative, and is an opportunity for the orchestra to thank the people of Durban for their support during the year.

“The holidays are upon us and the time has come to let go of our daily stresses to have a little fun. Take the whole family to a free festive concert that will be a highlight of your season,” added Tembe.
