Businessman behind bars for plot to murder partner

The case was adjourned for further investigation and the businessman was to appear back in court on 26 January.

THE man that is allegedly behind the plan to murder Kloof businessman, Grant Jones, is back in jail.

Magistrate Vanitha Armu granted the three men who were allegedly part of plot to kill Jones were two weeks back bail of R5 000 each on Thursday, 12 November.

The charges against the main accused, Jones’s business partner, relating to the attempted hits (including the one that took place in July this year) were also provisionally withdrawn.

He was only going to face charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, while the other two face charges of conspiracy to commit murder only for the earliest incident.

The case was adjourned for further investigation and the businessman was to appear back in court on 26 January.

But the charges against the main accused were reinstated and he appeared in court on Monday, 30 December. He is now facing additional charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances, theft, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and intimidation.

In their pleas to the court, the two men who allegedly assisted in the plot claimed they were offered R210 000 to murder Jones after the attempts made by the businessman in July were unsuccessful.

The two men were given 10-year suspended jail terms and ordered to pay Jones R100 000, and the main accused will appear in court next week for a bail application.
